She sat on the back steps with her eyes shaded from the heavy mid day sun. She squinted towards her son as his sequels of delight suddenly stopped. A smile flashed across her face as she watched him licking at the water that sprayed from the end of the flowing hose while their pit bull, Spike, snapped right under his chin. She kept squinting at him but tears replaced her smile as a face flashed in her mind. She tried to shake him from her mind. She tried to forget his faded footsteps.
