Cave of Melody, Scotland.
Scotland, Dyke, Dike, Sea Caves, Fingal Caves, Islands, Places, Inner Hebrid, Travel
Scotland seems like a great place for us to travel to - Fingal’s Cave is a sea cave on the uninhabited island of Staff, one of the Inner Hebrides islands which skirt the western coast of Scotland. The immense arch-roofed cave creates a melodic, haunting echo of waves within its cathedral-like atmosphere; something so impressive Romantic Poets John Keats, William Wordsworth, and Alfred, Lord Tennyson all made journeys here; as well as Her Majestic Queen Victoria. The cave’s Gaelic name is Uamh-Binn, meaning “cave of melody.” (image by scuba dooba on flickr) “Her Majestic Queen Victoria” Regardless of the honored personages it would be wonderful to get to see a place like this in person. It’s like a patchwork, cobbled together out of stone. No doubt there must be some fantastic myths associated with it.

The baobab may reach heights of 5 to 30 m and have trunk diameters of 7 to 11 m! Mature baobabs are frequently hollow, and thanks to their size they provide animals & humans with living space! These trees have set longevity records: some of them are 1000s of years old! There are lots of superstitions regarding the powers of the tree. If you dare to pick a flower, e.g, you'll be eaten by a lion! And if you drink water in which seeds have been soaked you'll be safe from a crocodile attack!

a seaglass collector heaven: MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg, California Gonna go here for sure!
GLASS BEACH is an unusual beach in MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg, California that is abundant in sea glass created from years of dumping garbage by the residents near the coastline. Glass Beach is a unique beach, not because it was made by man, but because of the way nature has reclaimed a garbage dump, and how time and the pounding surf have corrected one of man's mistakes.
During the early 20th century residents of Fort Bragg, California chose to dispose of their waste by hurling it off the cliffs above a beach. No object was too toxic or too large as household appliances, automobiles, and all matter of trash were tossed into the crashing waves below, eventually earning it the name The Dumps. In 1967 the North Coast Water Quality Board closed the area completely and initiated a series of cleanups to slowly reverse decades of pollution and environmental damage. But there was one thing too costly (or perhaps impossible) to tackle: the millions of tiny glass shards churning in the surf. Over time the unrelenting ocean waves have, in a sense, cleansed the beach, turning the sand into a sparkling, multicolored bed of smooth glass stones now known as Glass Beach. The beach is now an unofficial tourist attraction and the California State Park System has gone so far as purchasing the property and incorporating it into surrounding MacKerricher State Park.
Close-up view of the colored glass beads mixed in the sand at Glass Beach near Fort Bragg, California. In 1949, the site was a unregulated dumping ground, where people threw glass, appliances and even the odd car. Over the course of a decade or two, the sea worked its magic by cleaning the beach and by sculpting the remaining glass into smooth, coloured trinkets which we can see today.

This beautiful cave in Vietnam contains a jungle, is big enough to house a skyscraper, and was only discovered in 2009.

Recently Discovered World’s Largest Cave, Son Doong, Open to Visitors There are many things that make the Son Doong Cave in Vietnam a remarkable natural wonder; at about 9km in length, 200m in width and 150m in height, it is the largest cave in the world, with caverns capable of fitting entire city streets and skyscrapers. It is home to a river, jungles, and entire cave ecosystems.
Son Doong Cave, Vietnam Currently, the worlds largest cave! Sơn Đoòng cave is a cave in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, Bố Trạch district, Quảng Bình Province, Vietnam. Currently the biggest cave in the world, the cave is located near the Laos-Vietnam border It has a large fast-flowing underground river inside. National Geographics Interactive Cave Exploration. Photo: Carsten Peter Caves Affiliate Link National Geographic
The amazing photo featured above was taken in a huge cavern complex within the bowels of central Vietnam – in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. During the spring of 2009, a team of spelunkers began exploring a mountain river cave in Vietnam and discovered a passage carved by a subterranean river millions of years ago. Like a castle on a knoll, a limestone formation shines beneath a skylight in Hang Son Doong Cave. A monsoon storm had just filled the pool in the foreground, signaling that exploring season was ending. Referred to as the "infinite cave" this underground labyrinth is more than 2.5 mi long (4.0 km). Photo taken in May 2009. For more about this incredible cave, see the January 2011 issue of National Geographic Magazine. See also tomorrow’s Earth Science Picture of the Day (Carlsbad Cavern).

Bucket List. To see this!! Doug Perrine captured these stunning photographs in the Maldives. The particular location (Vaadhoo Island) has a concentrated population of bioluminescent phytoplankton. Bioluminescence is a natural chemical reaction which occurs when a micro-organism in the water reacts with oxygen. When washed ashore by the tides, the phytoplankton’s chemical energy is turned into light energy, illuminating the waves.
Bioluminescent Bay This uniquie bay in Puerto Rico contains single celled bioluminescent organisms which emit a flash of blue light when agitated at night. The waves hitting the shore, a shell tossed into the water, kayaking or just taking a swim, will cause this beautiful water to glow a neon blue. It is a gorgeous natural phenomena and occurs in three areas in Puerto Rico.
WOW!!!! Sea of Stars on Vaadhoo Island in the Maldives: What may appear as a mirror image of the stars above, the bioluminescence in the water is actually due to marine microbes called phytoplankton. The effect it has on the beach shore is absolutely breathtaking. | 27 Surreal Places To Visit Before You Die
It may look like an alien life-form has washed up on a beach, but this striking neon blue effect is a completely natural phenomenon. The incredible image was taken by photographer Doug Perrine during a visit to Vaadhoo, one of the Raa Atoll islands in the Maldives. It captures a natural chemical reaction called bioluminescence, which occurs when a micro-organism in the water is disturbed by oxygen. I need to see this before the day I die.
Vaadhoo Island in the Maldives ~ bioluminescent phytoplankton glitter like stars on the incoming tide, it's a moonless night and the beach is deserted, as the waves lap the shore glowing organisms stick to your feet; this is one of the most magical sights in the natural world.
