Eagle Brand - Sweet Condensed Milk (which when boiled in the can for 8 hours) produces a thick caramel. Do NOT let the boiling water go below the level of the can or it will explode! It's a mess you will never forget. Use your crockpot, on HIGH, 8 hours of boiling. Cool before opening or it will explode then, too! In other words, make it a day in advance, let it get to room temperature.
pie in jars! made this with my mom once but with a different recipe..it was awesome! Some say, if you put the canning lid on the jar immediately after taking it out of the oven it will seal the jar. ill have to try that!
