Surrealism eyes -inspired by Magritte's painting LE FAUX MIROIR. Also looked at Echer's eye. Discussed how surrealism is dreamlike or an altered reality made to make you think. The students began by just drawing several eye shapes, sketch and re-sketch ideas until they had one they were happy with (this part is important as ideas take time to develop). Some students had many ideas others had a hard time with one. For those with no ideas I talked about their interests (eg. hockey)

The squares are coloured in oil pastel, which is scratched into with an embossing tool. Then a layer of watercolour, then the trunk and branches are painted in acrylics.

could be a fun project class. Create an opening of some kind... What creature would be behind? Fun, texture and color study.

Each child created an oil pastel piece and then they were hung as a group, lovely.

Vase of Flowers inspired by Galla Serifin. Each child creates a large painting or collage of a flower head - based on an observational drawing - arrange these as a bouquet in a vase for a single collaborative artwork.
