For hundreds of years, Kazakhs have been herders raising fat-tailed sheep, camels, and horses, relying on these animals for food, clothing and transportation. Mutton and horse are the preferred meats. There is widespread practice of salting and drying meat to preserve it, and there is a preference for sour milk, as it is easier to store and therefore better suits their nomadic lifestyle.

KAZAKH of Mongolia. "The ancient art of eagle hunting is one of many traditions and skills that the Kazakhs have been able to hold on to for the last decades. They rely on their clan and herds, believing in pre-Islamic cults of the sky, the ancestors, fire and the supernatural forces of good and evil spirits." - Jimmy Nelson
"The Kazakhs are the descendants of Turkic, Mongolic and Indo-Iranian indigenous groups and Huns that populated the territory between Siberia and the Black Sea." [Photography project by JIMMY NELSON]
Eagle Hunter . Mongolia
Genghis and Kublai Khan, forebears of the modern nomads, had thousands of hunting birds. Eagle hunters in the nomadic herder societies had the role of preserving and stocking furs. The high social status of the Berkutchi (trainer) and his family was conditioned by the climate, as warm, strong and durable clothing for the people during the winter seasons was a vital necessity. Berkutchi would also give spiritual support to pregnant women, as the eagle was seen as a symbol of well-being and power.

Ernst Haas Gondola Reflection, Venice, 1955. This photo is not of buildings however the strong shadows and reflections are something that are often used in architectural photography, therefore I thought this would be a good photo to use for my research. This photo also loosely follows the rule of thirds with the gondola on the left being the first horizontal and the gondola on the right being the second vertical.

Photos by Nick Brandt : Lake turning animals into stone : Lake Natron in northern Tanzania is a death trap for birds and bats who appear to slam into it due to its surface's extremely reflective nature. Temperatures in the lake can reach up to 60 °C (or 140 °F) and the water has an extremely high soda and salt content which causes "the creatures to calcify, perfectly preserved, as they dry." These deceased birds and bats were found on the lake's shoreline.

Astounding: Terrible: Stone!: Any Animal That Touches This Lethal Lake Turns to Stone http://gizmodo.com/any-animal-that-touches-this-lethal-lake-turns-to-stone-1436606506 There's a deceptively still body of water in Tanzania with a deadly secret—it turns any animal it touches to stone. The rare phenomenon is caused by the chemical makeup of the lake, but the petrified creatures it leaves behind are straight out of a horror film. Photographed by Nick Brandt in his new book, Across the Ravaged Land, petrified creatures pepper the area around the lake due to its constant pH of 9 to 10.5—an extremely basic alkalinity that preserves these creatures for eternity.
Staged by Nick Brandt for surreal photos, birds, bats, and any animal that touches Lake Natron in Tanzania are "turned to stone" due to the lake's incredibly high pH.
Tanzania’s Lake Natron - one of the most serene lakes in Africa, Is also the source of some of the most eerie photographs ever captured. Lake Natron has a very deadly secret, it turns any animal it touches to stone. This is caused by its chemical makeup, Alkalinity of Lake Natron is between pH 9 and 10.5, so caustic it burns the skin and eyes of animals that get close to the water, leaving behind something straight out of a horror film. as in these incredible shots by photographer Nick Brandt.
