Assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

    Army SPC. Brittany B. Gordon, 24, of St. Petersburg, Florida. Died October 13, 2012, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to 572 Military Intelligence Company, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Died in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked her unit with an improvised explosive device.

    Marine Sgt. Ian M. Tawney Died October 16, 2010 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom 25, of Dallas, Ore.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died Oct. 16 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

    Navy Lt. Cmdr. (SEAL) Jonas B. Kelsall Died August 6, 2011 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom 32, of Shreveport, La.; assigned to an East Coast-based SEAL team; died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he was riding was shot down.

    US Army Captain Jennifer M Moreno was killed in Afghanistan on October 6, 2013. In her last moments of life, Jennifer heard two orders. One was a call to help a wounded soldier. The other was a command to stay put. She chose to help the wounded soldier, and gave her life trying. . Honor her memory.

    He was hit by enemy fire, kept firing, rushed to the aid of a Marine, denied himself meds in case any Marines got hurt worse than him, and now he's back in Afghanistan to help the Marines again.     Carpenter, 21, of Gilbert lost the eye, most of his teeth and use of his right arm from a grenade blast Nov. 21 near Marjah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Friends and family say he threw himself in front of the grenade to protect his best friend in Afghanistan, Cpl. Nick Eufrazio. So much respect for this man.

    Retired 1st Marine Division Gunnery Sgt. Tom Mazzarella, of Norwich, pays his respects to the American flag during a Flag Day ceremony at Davis Park in Danielson. Mazzarella served 23 years in the Marine Corps through World War II and Korea. He passed away on July 30, 2012 at the age of 91.

    Army CPT. James D. Nehl, 37, of Gardiner, Oregon. Died November 9, 2012, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Died in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, from small arms fire while on patrol during combat operations.

    Army SPC Wyatt J. Martin, 22, of Mesa, Arizona. Died December 12, 2014, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to 3rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle while conducting combat operations in Parwan Province, Afghanistan.
