On my to-read list: Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church by N.T. Wright
Surprised by #Hope by N. T. Wright http://www.faithfulreads.com/2014/04/mondays-christian-kindle-books-early.html
So far this is my favorite book of all time. Never has a book excited me more about my faith and my future in Christ (much more than heaven).

Surprised by Hope (N.T. Wright), ook in het Nederlands te krijgen (met de verrassende titel "Verrast door hoop")
N. T. Wright focuses on the real meaning of resurrection instead of the powerless metaphors often used in church.
What is the central Christian hope? What happens to you when you die? These are questions that N. T. Write seeks to answer in his book Surprised by Hope. This book was highly recommended to me by my family and I am enjoying reading it so far. Reading of this book - as well as a nearly finished knitting project - are the main reasons for my lack of posting earlier this week. I apologize for the delay and hope that, in the meantime, you can have a chance to ponder the two questions at the beginning of this post. Or maybe just browse the archives... or go make Christmas cookies or cards ... or find that book to read it for yourself!
Many Christians believe our future in heaven is all that really matters. But that's not what the Bible teaches. Through this small group bible study, Surprised by Hope, premier Bible scholar N. T. Wright brings you inside the Scriptures to gra

For Men Only: A Straightforward Guide to the Inner Lives of Women by Shaunti Feldhahn and Jeff Feldhahn. Great Book! SK
Here is the version for men who are married, engaged, or hope to get married one day. For Men Only: A Straightforward Guide to the Inner Lives of Women #married #marriage #engagement #relationship #relationships #book #engaged
A must read marriage (engagement) book for guys. A great wedding (engagement) book...consider "For Women Only" also.
This and its companion book For Women Only are very good at helping men and women understand areas that their spouse likely misunderstands. This is my fourth time reading, and first time leading a small group through it. Not a perfect book, but the format of using survey and focus group data to explain women to men and men to women, when used in honest discussion I think would be helpful for almost any marriage.
Through hundreds of interviews and the results of a scientific national survey of women, this book demonstrates that women are actually not random and that they really can be systematized and “mapped.” In fact, much to men’s delight, this book shows that women are actually quite easy to understand and please—as long as you know what it is they need. This simple map will guide you to loving your wife or girlfriend in the way she needs to be loved.
I can't say that these books saved my marriage but they definitely helped make it better:0)
Finally—You Can Understand Her! Women: complicated and impossible to understand? Do you love and want to please the woman in your life, but just can’t seem to figure her out? That was before For Men Only. Now at your fingertips is the tool that will unlock the secret to her mysterious ways.
A fantastic read - and scientific enough to be categorized here, rather than with my literature and artsy things. Part history, anthropology, biology/anatomy, sports narrative, and memoir, this is far more than an argument for Vibrams. It's a solid story, and you can't avoid feeling a bit clearer on what it means to be human when you finish.
Born To Run

Born To Run by Christopher McDougall I promise this book will change how you think about running- no matter what your physical condition is, it will make you rethink running! It's a really easy read, it's written more like a long magazine article than a non-fiction book; the people in it are really captivating. Please just give it a try, I promise you'll like it! =)
Christopher McDougall – Author of Natural Born Heroes and Born to Run
Born To Run fantastic audio book, j'adore
Great for runners and non-runners alike.
my favorite running book.
Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? In search of an answer, Christopher McDougall sets off to find a tribe of the world’s greatest distance runners and learn their secrets, and in the process shows us that everything we thought we knew about running is wrong. Isolated by the most savage terrain in North America, the reclusive Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s deadly Copper Canyons are custodians of a lost art. For centuries they have practiced techniques that allow them to run hundreds of miles without rest and chase down anything from a deer to an Olympic marathoner while enjoying every mile of it. Their superhuman talent is matched by uncanny health and serenity, leaving the Tarahumara immune to the diseases and strife that plague modern existence. With the help of Caballo Blanco, a mysterious loner who lives among the tribe, the author was able not only to uncover the secrets of the Tarahumara but also to find his own inner ultra-athlete, as he trained for the challenge of a lifetime: a fifty-mile race through the heart of Tarahumara country pitting the tribe against an odd band of Americans, including a star ultramarathoner, a beautiful young surfer, and a barefoot wonder. With a sharp wit and wild exuberance, McDougall takes us from the high-tech science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultrarunners are pushing their bodies to the limit, and, finally, to the climactic race in the Copper Canyons. Born to Run is that rare book that will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that the secret to happiness is right at your feet, and that you, indeed all of us, were born to run. Finally - I've finished a book for my Bingo Challenge. (You may have noticed I'm really bad at following through with them...) Anyway, this is the first nonfiction book I've read in a very long time. Also, I've never reviewed a nonfiction book, so don't expect much. I was pleasently sursprised by what I read. I was expecting an endless flow of facts and scientifical jargon, but instead got a story with a beginning, middle, and end. And like any good book, left me wanting more. Really, the synopsis lives up to it's name. The characters are fascinating. Learning about the Tarahumara culture was enlightening. Seeing the different lives of the runners and seeing their motivations, downfalls, happiness, strengths, weaknesses, and victories was truly inspiring. Yes, there were long stretches of facts that I found boring, but they supplied valuable information. Each detail in this book gives insight to what it means to be an endurance runner and honestly get enjoyment out of it. Now, I'm not a runner, but this book almost makes me want to be.

High School, Reading List, Amazing Book, Katie O'Malley, Young Girl, Favorite Books
This fantastic book tells the story of Katie Davis, a young woman just out of high school who moves to Uganda to follow what God had for her....
"At age 18 and after a mission trip to Uganda, Katie Davis found herself so moved, so broken by the people and the children of Uganda that she knew her calling was to return and care for them. "I believe that we were each created to change the world for someone." Favorite Book Ever!!!
In her biography, Kisses from Katie, Katie Davis describes her journey and challenges over the past years in Uganda setting up Amazima. An amazing story of conviction, courage and persistence from such a young girl. Well worth a read!
Katie Davis traveled to Uganda for a short mission trip over the Christmas break of her senior year in high school. She found herself so moved by the Ugandan people and their needs that she knew it was her calling to return to care for them.
After she graduated from high school, Tennessee teenager Katie Davis didn't pack for college like many of her peers -- she headed to Uganda. After going on a short mission trip there just months earlier, she was so moved by the Ugandans that she felt it was her calling to return to help them. Though her family and friends didn't understand, Katie could not be deterred.
Kisses from Katie; be inspired like you've never been before, by Miss Katie Davis ~ became missionary in Uganda at age 18!, founder of Amazima Ministries, adoptive/real mom to 13 daughters whom she homeschools, auntie Kate to hundreds of Ugandan children as well as needy grown ups, author, Jesus lover.. I have followed her blog for years. Amazing story of a young girl and Gods calling in her life.
Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis On my to read list.
Alright ladies, if you have not read Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis, go grab a box of Kleenexes and prepare for an amazing story. This was an amazing book from the picture on the cover to the bounded tear stained last page. As much as I enjoyed this book, I had to stop reading it almost every page to take a break because it left me sobbing. I don’t believe it is just because I have seven adopted children either. Katie J. Davis speaks of Jesus’ love in ways that I had not heard expressed before. “More important than the very obvious might and power shown by Jesus' miracles is His love. He loved these people enough to do everything in His power to "make it better." He entered into their suffering and loved them right there.” ― Katie J. Davis, Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love and Redemption Like Katie Davis, God has given me a passion for adoption. I strive to love like Jesus. I want to follow Him into brokenness and and show Christ's love to children who need it. Every day, I look into my children’s eyes and wonder, “Where would they be if they weren’t home?” Usually horrible answers come to mind: dead, on the streets, bounced around from abusive home to abusive home, abandoned, a slave. There are more children out there waiting for someone to protect them. It is not easy. Adoption is the hardest and most Christ-like love that I have ever come to know. Yet, it is a love that I could not live without. “The truth is that the 143 million orphaned children and the 11 million who starve to death or die from preventable diseases and the 8.5 million who work as child slaves, prostitutes, or under other horrific conditions and the 2.3 million who live with HIV add up to 164.8 million needy children. And though at first glance that looks like a big number, 2.1 billion people on this earth proclaim to be Christians." The truth is that if only 8 percent of the Christians would care for one more child, there would not be any statistics left. — Katie J. Davis, Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love and Redemption For those families who are waiting on adoptive children, I am praying. For the families who help children in foster care or have chosen to adopt a child, I am praying. For those who don’t want to risk comfort, I pray that you will search your hearts, educate yourselves, and seek God in His call to step outside of your comfort zone today. I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, and Christina Lamb
I AM MALALA, by Malala Yousafzai with Christina Lamb. Describes the life of a young Pakistani student who advocated for women's rights and education in the Taliban-controlled Swat Valley who survived an assassination attempt and became the youngest nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize.
I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai, Christina Lamb a 16 year old girl (at the time she was 14) who stood up for education and was then targeted by the Taliban. She continues campaigning for education around the world. The youngest person ever to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
'I Am Malala' by Malala Yousafzai, with Christina Lamb, is a remarkable 'read' that makes us believe in the power of one person's commitment & voice to inspire change. In Oct. 2012, Malala was targeted by the Taliban and shot in the head. She survived & continued her campaign for universal access to education for all. At seventeen, in 2014, Malala was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her commitment, work, & inspiration of others. Quite a 'read'!
In countries where all citizens have the opportunity to go to school, it is often taken for granted. The story of Malala Yousafzai shows that the power of education is incredibly strong, so strong it causes a terrorist group like the Taliban be frightened and take action. Yousafzai is a role model for our generation, showing the world that one person and one voice can empower millions of people around the world. #MUIPR #Education, #IAmMalala, #MalalaYousafzai, #Taliban, #WomensEmpowerment
Review of the autobiography "I am Malala" by the Pakistani Nobel Peace prize winner Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb and takeaways from her life.
I Am Malala The Girl Who Stood up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban (Book Club Kit) : Yousafzai, Malala : When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school. Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest nominee ever for the Nobel Peace Prize. The remarkable tale of terrorism, of the fight for girls' education, and of brave parents who have a fierce love for their daughter in a society that prizes sons.
