Create a knockout yard with these simple strategies.- lovely layers of shade plants & simple path. this would work to finish off the gardens and space between the deck, gazebo, and pool. would help also with those odd to mow spaces and finish off the pools landscaping. just thin out all the plants I already have add a few more pavers and mulch.

hostas with path to front yard along side of house. Study your space Look at your yard at different times of day, from different angles and in different weather conditions. Take pictures to help you remember what it looks like. Learn where the sunlight falls, where the shade pockets are, where the rain pools. Choose plants adapted to your yard's conditions and your area's hardiness Zone. Here, hostas thrive in the shade of big trees.

Shade garden ... would love to have one of these but our yard gets no shade

Shaded garden path surrounded by Dogwoods,Hostas, Caladiums , Begonias and Lirope etc...

Beautiful textures and shades of greens...with almost no flowers.

Concrete balls nestled in shade garden... in the PNW and other wet areas, these will soon turn into moss balls!

This is why I miss having big trees in the yard...hostas, hostas and more hostas.

shade plants...Lamium, Hosta - Lamium is an amazing ground cover that can fill a bed in one or two seasons - pink or purple flowers

Hostas can only be dreams. They're deer candy.

side yard idea - the curve of the path adds interest and takes the eye around the garden, not just straight down.
