On the Canadian tundra recently, a pack of huskies lounged in the snow, each tethered by a chain. Suddenly a wild polar bear approached a husky who had - on sighting him - signalled an invitation to play. Despite the huge asymmetry of power between them, they began an incredible ballet. The bear returned nightly for 2 weeks, until the ice froze and he left to hunt seals. Play signals cross species lines regularly and, amazingly, show that trust can overcome imbalances in power and skill.

I always thought it would be fun to swim in one of the zoo tanks. The water always looks so clear and refreshing!

I wish polar bears didn't have vicious tendencies. I would love to hug one.

Greyling's old mind often causes her to wander off, so we often tether her, or send her out with a group of younger dogs that follow her where ever she goes, because even though she's gruff and mean and frequently abuses them by putting them in their place, they still respect the feeble old lady.
