Use Ammonia To Clean Oven. -- While the oven is pre-heating to 150 degrees F, put on a pot of water to boil. Once the oven has reached 150 F, turn it off and pour 1 cup of ammonia into a heat safe bowl or baking dish and place it on the top rack of the oven. Place the pot of boiling water on the bottom rack, close the oven door, and leave them both in the oven overnight.

Preheat oven to 150ºF, place pot of boiling water on the bottom rack and bowl with 1 cup of ammonia on the top rack. Close oven door and leave overnight. (Ammonia smells less after having sat in the oven.) In the morning, remove both and the racks and let oven air out for 15 minutes. Add 1-2 teaspoons of dish soap and a quart of warm water to the ammonia and use a scrubbing pad to wipe the oven. Wear gloves, ammonia can be caustic to skin. Sprinkle some baking soda to help cut through the gunk.
