The Trappist Monastery in Hokuto, Hakodate, established in 1896, was Japan's first Catholic monastery. The red-brick gothic built monastery comes into view beyond a long hill road which is lined with poplar and Japanese cedar. The "Trappist deluxe ice cream" is a unique product made from mixed fermented butter. It is sold only at the direct sales shop which is located adjacent to the parking lot. A Trappist Cookie is used in place of a spoon to eat it.
