The Naming: Slow to start, but worth reading for the rest of the series

#reread - The Naming by Alison Croggon I remember reading this when I was about 14 and being enthralled by it as it was the first fantasy book I'd come across that was brutally honest about being a young woman (period happens for the first time, sexual harassment is frightening, new and strange, etc) and being strong and an independent, capable being. It's been years since I read any in this series, and I'd like to go back and see if they were as illuminating as my vague recollections are.
