Chocolate Guinness Cake - A Nigella recipe. I made this for my boyfriend's 30th and it went over very well! Note- Remember, the ale will expand when cooking so make sure you use the right size pan!! Also, this cake tastes quite dense and doesn't need icing at all. I made the cream cheese icing but next time I think I'd leave it off. This is a yummy, unique cake! SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE Real salted caramel requires patience, dexterity and a sugar-thermometer, none of which come naturally to me, but a salted caramel sauce can be rustled up in a matter of moments. True, in those moments you wouldn’t want to walk away from the stove, but the saucepan provides captivating enough watching to make that agreeable.
Nursery Fish Pie: There are certain days when only something soothing and comforting and topped with mash potato will do; on such days, this pie could make you weep with gratitude. In extremis, top quality bought mash (such as from the Good As Going Out range at Waitrose) will do as a substitute for peeling, cooking and mashing real potatoes.
Chocolate Stout Cake...real Guinness makes the chocolate taste richer but not sweeter. This is a fabulous, adult chocolate cake that kids will appreciate, too. I've made it several times and I hope someone has a birthday soon so I can make it again.
