Classroom: Reading activity. Word Family Easter Eggs. I love this project. Write word beginnings on one half of the egg and word ending on the other half. Students can turn the egg to create rhyming words. Have the students write their created words down and you have a center.
By using Easter eggs, students can improve their knowledge on word families. They can turn one half of the egg to read a new word and continue from there. It's a good, hands-on way for students to work on word families.
My daughter loves playing with Easter Eggs. I've got to try teaching her the word families this way.
Word family egg matching game (also done for capitals and lower case). Great blog with amazing learning ideas and embedded links to all the sites, ideas and printables used for each preK and preschool lesson.
Phonics 1- Word Families You will need seven plastic eggs and a permanent marker. On one half of the egg write the phonogram (-at, -ook, -ad, -en, -ug, -ar, -ot). On the other half of the egg write down all the beginning letters that will create a complete word once joined with the phonogram. Spin the egg half that has the single letters until you match each letter with a phonogram to create a word.

Slap word game. Great for younger ones learning sight words. Really great game for the older ones too. This is a good idea for Language Arts, but could be used for so much more. You could totally do this with math. EX: Call out the problem (5+4) and have the kids find the number 9. Do Division, Multiplication and Subtraction also. Fun way to learn what they need to learn.
Slap! Call out a word and first person to slap it, adds it to their pile..... vocabulary, sight words, math facts... so many possibilities!--adapt for review game?
Kind of a spin on my "Slap a Word" Game.....Slap! Call out a word and first person to slap it, adds it to their pile..... vocabulary, sight words, math facts... so many possibilities!
Slap Words! I love this simple word wall game. Put sight words on different colored sheets of tag board. Lay the words cards on top of the table face up. Call out a word. The person to find it first slaps their hand down on top of the card, then takes the card and puts it to the side in "their pile". The person with the most words wins! This would be great with Math facts. OR if you read vocabulary word definitions.
