The eye is tricked into believing the stairs surround a central stairwell until the bottom flight suggests this is not allways the case. The greater the emphasis is on repeating elements the more shocking the variation.

Stairs in Melk Abbey (or Stift Melk), an Austrian Benedictine abbey, and one of the world's most famous monastic sites. It is located above the town of Melk on a rocky outcrop overlooking the river Danube in Lower Austria, adjoining the Wachau valley.

One of the spiral staircases in Seaton Delaval Hall near Newcastle. Bought by the National Trust in 2009, much work remains to be done. The main part of the Hall was severely damaged by fire in 1822 and remains only as a shell.

This one is a little bit closer to the staircase at the silo. Missing a few hundred floors.

I think I'd be dizzy by the time I got to the top!...but it is beautiful none the less...
