Paradise Lagoon, Hilo, Big Island of Hawaii ~ by Farley Roland Enderman ~"There's a lot of humidity in the air here and all those particles of moisture factor in on fragmenting the sun's rays, changing the color of the sky, air and light around you. That's why it's so easy to get all these amazing light shows, especially of course when the sun is low in the sky."

Ala Moana Center, Honolulu. The blog post identifies the photo as being from a '60s postcard. I don't remember what year that fountain was demolished - guessing it was sometime in the early or mid '80s. This was where my friends and I would arrange to meet at the mall during junior high and high school (I graduated in 1976).

L.A. HELMS BAKERY TRUCK 1948 Culver City 1948...........I went on a school field trip to Helms Bakery in downtown LA in 1963.
L.A. HELMS BAKERY TRUCK 1948. The drivers had regular customers on their route and, as they wended their way they would blow a whistle with a very distinctive sound to alert a customer. It was always a delight to stop a truck, have the driver get out, open the back of the panel truck, and pull out the huge drawers, each filled with pastry, bread, and cakes.
Helms Bakery truck, from my childhood Our Helms man "Morry" came every afternoon around 4pm. He would stop, my Mom had already told us what she needed or wanted, and let us get a treat as well.
The Helms Bakery truck traveled up and down the streets of West L.A. blowing his truck whistle. We came out of our houses and ran up to him. The AROMA from the pulled out drawers of the Helms Coach! The freshest bread, cookies, rolls, doughnuts, crème puffs. The waxy chocolate dipped yellow cake doughnuts were 15 cents. There were premium cookies like iced brownies, and smaller cookies like shortbread and mini chocolate chips. Helms Bakery lasted from 1931 to 1969.
