Fall 2012 Nail Trends - Fashion Week Nails Christian Cota Manacchio used a makeup sponge to apply Chocolate Milk from the cuticle halfway down the nail, then added Putty from the middle of the nail to the tip, blending with the sponge. While the polishes were still wet, she painted on Super Matte top coat to combine the two colors and finish the look. Photo: Courtesy of CND

this terracotta nail color with a lovely fade from amber to light light orange to egg shell is ethereal and appropriate for even corporate work environments. This is by CND and Manacchio.

Christian Cota We saw lots of Southwestern influences on nail art this season, including this "terracotta" effect at Christian Cota. To get the look, Manacchio used a makeup sponge to apply Chocolate Milk from the cuticle halfway down the nail, then added Putty from the middle of the nail to the tip, blending with the sponge. While the polishes were still wet, she painted on Super Matte top coat to combine the two colors and finish the look.

How to: Ombre Nails. -Swipe color on tip of nail, make sure it is even on all fingers. -Wait until color is dry, another coat. -When that coat is dry swipe a thick coat of clear polish -As soon as clear polish is on and even, drip drops of color onto nail tip and with the clear brush push the drops back towards the cuticle, about half way down the nail. -Let dry for half hour

Wowwww! Ok, so this is only two different polishes. Sparkly Teal and Glittery Purple. This is done by layering. Paint the entire nail teal. Then, layer on the purple starting approximately 1/3 of the way up the nail from the cuticle. Split the top 2/3 of the nail into four sections and those become the starting points for each layer of polish (see below). As you paint each layer of purple it creates a deeper, richer purple.
