a lesson in espalier

For gardens with limited growing space, espalier your fruit trees. Just as grape vines are espaliered on a trellis, so can a fruit tree be trained the same. It does require a bright sunny place to grow, as fruit trees need full sun. Pictured here is an espaliered pear tree. It's a very old growing technique, but perfect for today's smaller gardens.
