Writing Journal - Fun for kids to go through a stack of magazines to find words to describe, cut, glue. Put some students on computer to print out word art. This would be inserted into their writers notebook to be used as a seed idea later!
Friday Journals--kids write a note to their parents telling what they learned that week. The parents write a short response back, and the child brings the notebook back Monday. Each parent response earns a sticker for the cover.
The Gingerbread Man. This was a really successful activity - first we read the book, brainstormed the adjectives, played a gingerbread man memory game, and then cooked gingerbread men. A wonderful afternoon the kids really enjoyed!
Love this idea! students pretend they are the main character. Biography Poster- This will really require students to KNOW what they have on their poster, not just write facts down :-) Could so be used for author studies or character analysis.
I used this template to create Writing Offices for my third grade students. The students have these offices available when they are writing and can refer to the information listed there! It includes information about: the writing process, an editing.
KETCHUP folder: When students are absent, place a "ketchup folder" on their desk and slide their missed assignments inside the folder throughout the day. Fun and creative way of getting missed work to students who were absent
Mix this Language Arts lesson in with pumpkins in Science! Rowdy in First Grade: Adjectives and Reading Rings Like the idea of posting a picture that the students choose adjectives for. Good for studying synonyms as well.
