Middlesex was quite an interesting book. The reason I'm adding this to my list is that the concept of this book made an impact. I remember some of the enduring images, which Jeffrey Eugenides painted for the reader. A young child was born as a girl and boy, and the parents had to make the decision of which gender she or he should become. What a concept for a book!

My birth certificate lists my name as Calliope Helen Stephanides. My most recent driver’s license...records my first name simply as Cal."

Book #9 - for the "Pullitzer Prize Winning" slot - Middlesex: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club):
Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides Compulsively readable, Eugenides’s novel tells many stories, but the most memorable of these is that of Cal, who tells us that he was born twice: “first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day of January 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of l974.” Whether or not you’ve had any remotely similar experience, Cal’s struggles with sexuality, identity, and loyalty to family are likely to hit home.

My favorite book trilogy! A must read, especially if you plan to see the movies. 1st book: The Hunger Games, 2nd book: Catching Fire, 3rd book: Mockingjay.
The Hunger Games (Book 1) by Suzanne Collins. I gobbled this one up in about three days. Wish I had read it before I saw the movie, though!
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. another book on my top ten list of all time favorite books. Its disturbing in the best possible way. Its a series that doesn't coddle you and isn't coated in sugar like many of the recent young adult litereature(Twilight). Its gritty and grim, and will leave you worn out from an emotional roller coaster. It has a depth to it that many YA fiction authors are afraid to use. And speaking of YA Fiction, this series isn't limited to youth, it can touch those of any age. Definitely a series worth reading.
One of the 5 most important books of the 20th century, and it has the power to change your life. Fankl's logotherapy was the most important breakthroughs in psychology and is perfectly relevant today. It helps to bring meaning to all aspects of our lives and even to organizations. Dr. Viktor Frankl's autobiography of his experiences in a Nazi Concentration Camp and his discovery of meaning...one of my all-time favorite books.
Frankl, an Austrian Jew, was sent to Auschwitz and then Dachau. His wife, brother, mother and father all died in the camps, but he lived. He and his wife worked on much of this prior to being sent off to Auschwitz. Supposedly one of the best books I'll ever read. Looking forward to it. Man's Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl.
Man's Search for Meaning. Viktor Frankl. “In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning, such as the meaning of a sacrifice.” Inspiring in a way that isn't cheesy and doesn't deny pain. One I have read and reread.
Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. Set me like a seal upon thy heart [...] love is as strong as death.
"Being human always points, and is directed, to something or someone, other than oneself -- be it a meaning to fulfill or another human being to encounter. The more one forgets himself -- by giving himself to a cause to serve or another person to love -- the more human he is." Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, Holocaust survivor
Man's Search for Meaning: Viktor Frankl's deeply moving account of his years in concentration camps, and beautiful observations on how to "be worthy of one's suffering". Given his experience, his words carry a weight and power to truly change how one experiences life's difficulties. Foundational book.

“The World Without Us” by Alan Weisman How would the earth be changed if the human race simply and suddenly vanished? Weisman uses this startlingly elementary question and its fascinating answer to suggest just how artificial our grip on the planet has become. Within days, subway tunnels would flood and collapse, subdivisions would be shattered by frozen pipes and devoured by mold and termites.
This book proves that the planet is not in peril. It's just waiting for us to leave. A revelation.
