More to explore:
valley of fires is the oldest state park in Nevada, USA. It covers an area of almost 42,000 acres (17,000 ha) and was dedicated in 1935. It derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays.

Valley of Fire, Nevada A definite must for any day trip out of Las Vegas.
The Wave ~ Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.
Our first evening out west was spectacular! When we flew into Vegas, I saw that the sky was full of wispy clouds, so I knew sunset might be spectacular. After doing some scrambling across slickrock on Rainbow Vista at Valley of Fire State Park in Overton, Nevada, we found the "fire wave," as made popular by Isabel Synnatschke. We spent most of the afternoon around there, photographing the awesome patterns and waiting for the good light. Sure enough right as the sun set, the sky lit up the clouds with a beautiful orange hue and the slickrock began to glow around us. It was unbelieveably beautiful, and to this day it's still hard to describe. It was one of the most magical light moments I've experienced! Thanks Lord! I also got several nice pictures looking the other direction, which I'll share later. If you're in the Las Vegas area, this is definitely a place not to miss!
