Grunge Fashion. This photography of Naomi Campbell and Kristen McMenamy photographed by Steven Meisel perfectly embodies Grunge Fashion the the 90s. Grunge was made popular by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, the t-shirt McMenamy is wearing. Characterized by ripped jeans, flannels, loose t-shirts, messy attire.

In 1992, as Creative Director for Perry Ellis, Marc Jacobs showed a landmark collection. Tapping into the look and mood of the nascent grunge scene, Marc decided to put it on the runway: flannel shirts, thermals (his reimagined in cashmere, a Jacobs signature to this day), Doc Martens, layers and layers, all of it topped with a little crocheted skullcap.
