Decorator, Hal Williamson: The Louis XVI wing chairs and sofa may look formal, but the chairs "have a wonderful pitch, so you can sit comfortably for hours, and many naps are taken on the sofa." My client has a romantic soul. She appreciates the juxtapositions of drastically different things, like silk next to straw. I began to conceive of the house as a beautiful play of textures — of sheen, light, and shadow. Next to straw window shades in the living room, I used amethyst silk taffeta draperies that are almost opalescent, letting them puddle on the floor in a way that makes people in New Orleans think of ballgowns. The other beautiful contrast is the matte, slightly rough plum linen on the sofa against the shimmering lavender velvet of the wing chairs.
