Break the Island Rule “I wanted a table -- not an island -- for this kitchen, which was a little controversial given that islands in kitchen are so ubiquitous,” says designer Thomas Smythe. He also gave a nod to the coziness of old-fashioned country brick kitchen floors by using a classic herringbone pattern but dressed it up for its city location with a blank slate. An over-scaled lantern adds soul and just the right note of unexpected formality. Wish I could talk hubby into adding windows in the kitchen. I don't like the cupboards to the counter though. It's just too tight. But I bet this is the 'butler's' /second kitchen in this home. Love the ceiling too and wicker and white love each other.
