Meet the grandfather of all Belgian tripels. In the 1930's, the monks at Westmalle abbey began to brew this strong pale ale that would be widely imitated by Belgian and Dutch brewers. Originally, the monks sold the beer as Superbeer. A great name! (Photo by ctgreg)
Saison means season. In summer, the farmers working in the fields were very thirsty. In winter, they didn't have much work except... brewing beer for summer. Saison beers are bitter and very thirst-quenching. Dupont is an original farm brewery in Wallonia who kept this unique tradition alive (Photo by weege).
