I made this powerpoint to teach my grade six science class about atoms and static electricity. After the lesson, students made their own atom diagrams. I highly recommend starting the lesson off with the "Swing cereal magic trick" on static electricity!
Our Science Lab theme continues with light and electricity activities. We learned about rainbows, played a "shine the flashlight" game, played with color paddles, how to make a flashlight work, about Thomas Edison.
Students ask questions to determine cause and effect relationships of electric interactions between two objects not in contact with each other in this assessment and rubric aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. The assessment begins with a whole class review of electrical interactions followed by an individual assessment in which students investigate static electricity by putting a charge on a balloon and holding it above gelatin to observe electrical interactions.
