To clean a glass fireplace window of burned on soot use 1/3 ammonia and 2/3 rubbing alcohol. A chimney sweeper guy told me about this. It works like a charm. Use paper towels and spray bottle. For any really burned on spot use a razor blade scraper. I really thought a new glass door was the best answer, but after trying this method the glass is sparkling clean and the door looks new.
