Benny doesn't want to apprentice as a zombie hunter with his boring older brother Tom, but he has no choice. He expects a tedious job whacking zoms for cash, but what he gets is a vocation that will teach him what it means to be human.

Awesome first book to a trilogy. I'm all about YA books. I *Have* to know what my kids are reading!

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman - one of the best books I've read in a long time. Charming and creepy at the same time. Couldn't put it down!

Engaging non-reading boys can be quite a daunting task. If you have a few who are hooked on action, death and gore they might enjoy this "Lord-of-the-Flies"-type zombie tale (grownups are infected). Make no mistake, this book will not be winning any awards for writing quality or character development. Good luck picking out the main character! Nobody is safe from death in this one! The story is face-paced and exciting. Series is currently moving like wildfire through my classroom!

Further adventures of Benny and Co.

The book opens with James arriving in Yorkshire, to be the assistant to the eccentric but kindly Siegfried Farnon. He becomes accustomed to Siegfried, Siegfried's mischievous younger brother Tristan, and the gruff, kindly farmers who eke out a living in the Yorkshire Dales. And through this, James falls in love with the beautiful Helen Alderson and worms his way into the trust of the farmers.

Give this follow up to Rot & Ruin to any boy who claims they don't like to read - it's guaranteed to change their tune.

Karin Slaughter is a relatively new author who is quickly following in the tracks of Patricia Cornwell. Her books are all very good!
