NASA's data shows that a 60-meter asteroid, spotted by Spanish stargazers in February, will whistle by Earth in 11 months. Its trajectory will bring it within a hair’s breadth of our planet, raising fears of a possible collision. The asteroid, known as DA14, will pass by our planet in February 2013 at a distance of under 27,000 km (16,700 miles). This is closer than the geosynchronous orbit of some satellites...BUT GOD!!!

Thor’s Helmet Nebula - NGC 2359 (also known as Thor's Helmet) is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. The nebula is approximately 15,000 light-years away and 30 light years in size. The central star is the Wolf-Rayet star HD 56925, an extremely hot giant thought to be in a brief, pre-supernova stage of evolution

Most bright stars in our Milky Way Galaxy reside in a disk. Since our Sun also resides in this disk, these stars appear to us as a diffuse band that circles the sky.

Combined visible and infra-red light images of star forming region Sharpless 2-106. This nebula is located about 2,000 light-years away in the direction of the constellation Cygnus. It is 2 light-years long and 1/2 a light-year across. The central star of this nebula is more than 15 times the mass of our Sun. It formed less 100,000 years ago, making this one of the youngest star-forming regions known.

kenobi-wan-obi: The Brown Ghoul: vdB 141 vdB 141 is a reflection nebula located in the constellation Cepheus. Sometimes referred to as the ghost nebula, its awkward name is its catalog number in Sidney van den Bergh’s catalog of reflection nebulae, published in 1966. Several stars are embedded in the nebula. Their light gives it a ghoulish brown color.
