Rosslyn Chapel (1446) at Christmas, Scotland. ~ 'It came into his mind to build a house for God's service, of most curious work, the which that it might be done with greater glory and splendour, he caused artificers to be brought from other regions and foreign kingdoms and caused daily to be abundance of all kinds of workmen present as masons, carpenters, smiths, barrowmen and quarriers.....' Father Hay, describes the start of Sir William St Clair's plan.

Rosslyn Chapel Scotland Christmas
Christmas tree in church
Rosslyn Chapel took 40 years to complete and its ornate stonework and symbolism have inspired - and intrigued – visitors ever since. A new visitor centre tells the story from its medieval origins to the Da Vinci Code. It is a 15th-century church in the village of Roslin, seven miles from Edinburgh in Scotland. The chapel is famous both for its decorative art and its mysterious associations with the Knights Templar, the Holy Grail, and the Freemasons.

The Callanish Stones (or "Callanish I", Clachan Chalanais or Tursachan Chalanais in Gaelic) are an arrangement of standing stones placed in a cruciform pattern with a central stone circle. They were erected in the late Neolithic era, and were a focus for ritual activity during the Bronze Age. They are near the village of Callanish (Gaelic: Calanais) on the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Culloden (Gaelic Cùl lodain) - site where the Jacobite cause, fighting to put a Stuart on the throne, suffered its mortal wound 16 April 1746 & "Bonnie Prince Charlie" had to flee to France & never return to Scotland. After Culloden, everything about the Highland way of life was banned - the claymore, the bagpipe, & even the wearing of tartans. Fortunately, the ban on tartans was lifted in 1782, & in 1843 Queen Victoria appointed the first "personal piper to the Sovereign" of Great Britain.
