Doon Hill is the site of a dark age settlement dating back over 1,500 years. However, it is probably more famous for its role in the Battle of Dunbar in 1650, when the Scottish army was routed by Oliver Cromwell's English army following a tactical error by the Scots, who got trapped between Doon Hill and the Spott Burn.

Rosslyn Chapel (1446) at Christmas, Scotland. ~ 'It came into his mind to build a house for God's service, of most curious work, the which that it might be done with greater glory and splendour, he caused artificers to be brought from other regions and foreign kingdoms and caused daily to be abundance of all kinds of workmen present as masons, carpenters, smiths, barrowmen and quarriers.....' Father Hay, describes the start of Sir William St Clair's plan.

Rosslyn Chapel at Christmas - near Edinburgh, Scotland.
Rosslyn Chapel took 40 years to complete and its ornate stonework and symbolism have inspired - and intrigued – visitors ever since. A new visitor centre tells the story from its medieval origins to the Da Vinci Code. It is a 15th-century church in the village of Roslin, seven miles from Edinburgh in Scotland. The chapel is famous both for its decorative art and its mysterious associations with the Knights Templar, the Holy Grail, and the Freemasons.

Saint Andrews Cross Scotland's National Symbol. Every country's flag is symbolic of the culture and customs of that country. The colors and design represent something unique and specific to each country. Scotland is no exception. Scotland is exceptional in the fact that it has two flags. The Saltire and the Lion Rampant. The Saltire has a blue background with the white cross of Saint Andrew.
Flag of Scotland - Also known as St. Andrew's Cross or the Saltire. The Scottish flag is one of three flags that make up the Union Jack of Great Britain, one of the most famous flags in the world. The Union Jack consists of the Scottish white cross of St. Andrew the English red cross of St. George and the Northern Irish red cross of St. Patrick on a blue base.
The Callanish Stones (or "Callanish I", Clachan Chalanais or Tursachan Chalanais in Gaelic) are an arrangement of standing stones placed in a cruciform pattern with a central stone circle. They were erected in the late Neolithic era, and were a focus for ritual activity during the Bronze Age. They are near the village of Callanish (Gaelic: Calanais) on the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Culloden (Gaelic Cùl lodain) - site where the Jacobite cause, fighting to put a Stuart on the throne, suffered its mortal wound 16 April 1746 & "Bonnie Prince Charlie" had to flee to France & never return to Scotland. After Culloden, everything about the Highland way of life was banned - the claymore, the bagpipe, & even the wearing of tartans. Fortunately, the ban on tartans was lifted in 1782, & in 1843 Queen Victoria appointed the first "personal piper to the Sovereign" of Great Britain.
