Richard Marks. "Funky Four Corners." This must be the great tune referenced in Arthur Conley's matchless "Down on Funky Street." Conley recites names of dances in an odd formulation, i.e. "One used to be the Shotgun," until he gets to, "Four used to be the funky Four Corners." But why "used to be"? Once #1, always #1, one would have thought. Or if the funky Four Corners had been supplanted, why not name the new #4? These are the things that worry me, and they should worry you, too.
