Kids may be small, but they tend to take up a lot of space— at least their stuff certainly does! Between the toys, books, DVDs and craft supplies, you may wonder if you’ll ever achieve calm amongst the chaos. You may envision having to lay out more cash for great organization solutions. But never fear. There are plenty of DIY storage ideas you can put to use in playrooms, bedrooms, or finished basements— wherever the kids congregate. Baskets and bins are your best friends— whether they’re under the bed, in a bench, or mounted on the wall. Storage furniture is key. Repurpose a cabinet for dress up. Build a caddy for sports equipment. We’ve found some of the best DIY storage ideas for kids rooms on the web.

Great storage idea for kids rooms. I could paint these white, and they'd solve my daughter's stuffed animal problem!

stuffed animal storage (Amanda Kingloff in Parents June 2011) BEST idea ever for stuffed animals! Recently purchased this and we hung it in the girls toy room. It's so nice to finally have a place for them other than bunched up somewhere! (12/8/12)

An Organized Family Mount mail boxes, file holders, or matching baskets to a wall near the back door. Assign each family member a container and fill with essential items. Train kids to drop mail and important papers in the appropriate containers. Leave useful items for children -- such as lunch money, signed documents, or umbrellas -- and encourage them to check their container before leaving for the day.

Hanging vintage bowls as baskets - such a sweet kitchen touch.

Would this sort of thing be weird at my house? The only thing is we'd lose the ability to have our kitchen table...so it would be counter style like this all the time. I think I'd like a lower, wider counter...islandish. Hmmmm......

Between the studs, in wall storage! LOOOOOVE

something to think about, too. I'm not sure how Ben would feel about me displaying my shoes so ostentatiously, but I suppose I'll find out ;)
