DIY Rain Stick -fill a dry empty bottle with a box of toothpicks. Add rice (uncooked) to the bottle leaving an empty space of about 1 1/2 inches at the top. Seal the lid. As you gently turn the bottle, the rice falls through the toothpicks, sounding like rain.
Homemade lava lamps. Vegitable oil, a about 3/4th of the water bottle, then water. 10 drops of food coloring. Then take a alkaseltzer tab and break it into 4 pieces. Drop one in at a time and wait for each to dissove! So cool! I cant wait to try it! crafts-with-the-kids
Calm down jar. (Use plastic peanut butter jar, in case child likes to throw.) Mix 1 TBLS of pink glitter-glue with 1c of hot water, then add pink food coloring and a tiny tub of glitter. When your child is upset (in lieu of a time out,) have him/her shake the calm down jar, and watch the glitter settle. This takes about 5 minutes. Distracts and calms.
Weather: Fill the cup with water. Put shaving cream on top for a cloud. Explain that when clouds get really heavy with water, it rains! Then put blue food coloring on top of the cloud, and watch it rain. Kids love experiments!
