Rocky Mountain Locust The grasshoppers showed up around the middle of April to May and stay around for four months eating everything in sight estimated 10 to 100 acres a day. It got so bad in 1885 that the governor of Colorado went to congress for help and got none, in 1899 it was the worse it had ever been more like a plague.
The Cog Railway passed this log-cabin lodge along it's route to the summit of Pike's Peak. It appears that the lodge also offered lunch, coffee and lemonade. Note the menu board sat upon the rock- most likely facing the railway tracks. 1909
