They then get a patient or two words on a card, such as I will, Then the student with extract the letter or letters to make the word into a contraction. Then the student will use a band-aid as the apostrophe to hold the word together. Then the patients go to the recovery room or Bulletin Board.

    Sentence Surgery…laminated unedited sentence strips, bandaid strips for ending punctuation, small round bandages for commas and quotations, tongue depressors to mark capitalization, and ‘Emergency Kit’ paper bags w/ red cross on them (to keep surgery supplies). Can be adjusted to use K-6…the kids loved it!

    Vocab on the Move....during a unit review in reading we typically play this game. The students all have a sentence strip with a vocab word on it. They do not know what the word is though. They have to travel around the room to find a synonym, antonym, example, sentence, etc. The clues are used to determine the word on their heads.
