NFIB Small Business Index - The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) released its latest Small Business Economic Trends report, finding a fall in optimism among those small businesses surveyed. It also found that poor sales (i.e., weak demand) continues to be the leading problem among small businesses, with one quarter reporting it to be such.

WEDNESDAY, June 6, 2012 - U.S. services businesses throttled back hiring in May. The Institute for Supply Management’s seasonally adjusted Services Employment Index was 50.8 in May, down 3.4 points from the previous month. Readings above 50 indicate expansion. May’s slide follows a smaller drop in April, the biggest two-month drop in this index since December 2008. Overall activity among U.S. service businesses increased slightly last month.
