    Prehistoric Sea Turtle: Archelon ischyros, the giant sea turtle, lived around 75-65 million years ago in the Late Cretaceous period, a time when North America was mostly covered by a shallow, tropical sea. About 4m (13ft) long and 4.9m (16ft) wide, it is estimated to have weighed more than 2200kg or 4900lb and may have had a life span of around a century.
