The Help, by Kathryn Stockett. You might have seen the movie, I never did. It's a really, really good book, I stayed up all night reading it.

Loved the book! I am just getting ready to watch the movie tonight and thought I would add it to my list of books worth reading.

  • Jacquie Gorman

This book was my favorite so far this year. It is about life in Mississippi during the Civil Rights movement- specifically the dynamic between the white women of Jackson and their "colored" help. It also explores the relationships that the maids build with the white babies, and the love that is shared between them. When the frustration becomes too much for two of the maids, they accept the offer of writing their stories down for a book- an offer made by their white lady bosses best friend. They start a sort of movement in Jackson that threatens to topple the very foundation of society. MUST read. (P.S. I saw the movie and loved it as well. It leaves out a lot of the extras that makes the book pop, but it was wonderful otherwise)

The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I read this before seeing the movie, which was also good. Great book to discuss in book clubs. Great characters too.
