The greatest victory has been to be able to live with myself, to accept my shortcomings...I'm a long way from the human being I'd like to be. But I've decided I'm not so bad after all. - Audrey Hepburn
Image from the Horn of Africa 1992 UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Audrey Hepburn holds a severely malnourished child at a UNICEF-assisted feeding centre in Baidoa. “For many it’s too late, but for many, many more we can still be on time,” said Ms. Hepburn, after witnessing the impact of famine on Somalia’s children in 1992.
In March,1988, Audrey began her work as an International Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF by visiting the poorest country in the world--Ethiopia. In September 1992, four months before she died, Hepburn went to Somalia (this photo). Hepburn called it "apocalyptic" and said, "I walked into a nightmare.
"With over 25 movies to her credit, there is no doubt that Audrey achieved a rarefied position as beloved actress and icon of style. Yet, Audrey always considered her work as a UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador her greatest role. And that is the beauty of Audrey's legacy; that we have the opportunity to know and appreciate her gifts, both as an actress and devoted humanitarian." http://www.audreyhepburn.com/menu/index.php
