I had many pairs of saddle shoes growing up. I always wanted penny loafers or Mary Janes. Dad & Mom thought these were more practical. Wore them for school & play. Polished them to wear to church. Saddles, 1942.............I had to wear these to school when they were no longer popular...as "corrective shoes." All my shoes were purchased from Farners Shoe Store, located at 1918 S Dale Mabry. It was owned by Sam and Bessie Edelstein, and run by their son, Michael, since Sam's passing in 1970. Sadly they closed their doors after 68 years of business, in the Carriage Trade Plaza. They were the only store in Tampa that carried AAAA width shoes for my narrow feet.
Saddle Shoes - for some reason, these were the "have to have" shoes in Jr. High - and this was the early 70's... Remember they hurt like hell breaking in, then just fit foot perfectly after that.
