Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Co. Antrim in the 1890s: This narrow rope suspension bridge connects the tiny island of Carrick to the mainland. The bridge, which was originally used by Salmon fisherman, spans a gap 20 metres wide and is 30 metres above the sea below.  Still in use the bridge is now maintained by The National Trust.
