I love today's "Photo of the Day." It's of the 1973-74 freshmen along with Bob Johnson. Five out of seven NHL draft picks, three NHL players, three guys named Dave, one current NHL broadcaster, and one currently the VP of Hockey Operations for the Anaheim Ducks. I don't know what the rest are doing these days. Anyone? Back Row - L to R: Dave Lundeen, Dave Otness, Bob Johnson, Pete Scamurra, Steve Clippingdale, Jim Jefferies. Front - Goalie Dave McNab, Brian Engblom.

Badger hockey fans love their signs and were known for their creativity at the Coliseum. Might have to do a week of old signs for the photo of the day. See what we can dig up in the archives (David Stluka photo).

The return of the "Photo of the Day" is a random shot of John Gregory from 1977. Gregory was a defenseman for the Badgers from 1974-78.

The "Photo of the Day" is of Peter Johnson after a goal against Michigan State during the 1980-81 season. Not sure of the photographer. In case you didn't know, he was pretty darn good as well.

The LA Kings won the Stanley Cup last night, so in addition to former Badger defenseman Davis Drewiske, former Badger hockey broadcaster Bob Miller deserves some congratulations. Both were part of Badger NCAA title runs.

The last Badger to get his name on the Stanley Cup was Adam Burish just two years ago with the Chicago Blackhawks. Today's "Photo of the Day" is from his visit to Madison and the Kohl Center to share it with the fans.

The "Photo of the Day" is a shot of the Wisconsin bench from the 1985-86 season. Looks like future UW assistant coach Pat Ford (12) and Tony Scheid (33) in the foreground of the photo.

John Jagger was Wisconsin's first hockey All-American as a defenseman in 1970 and is featured in today's "Photo of the Day."

We missed yesterday's "Photo of the Day," so getting back on track here. Here's a shot of a diving Brian Mullen, from the 1980-81 NCAA championship season, against Colorado College. He went on to play 11 seasons in the NHL.

We had a "Photo of the Day" a couple weeks ago of Gary Shuchuk, but it's timely again with the LA Kings starting tonight in the Stanley Cup Finals. Shuchuk was on LA's last Stanley Cup Final team in 1993. Read more... host.madison.com/...

Surely you've heard him broadcast Badger games on WPT, so here's today's "Photo of the Day" of defenseman Theran Welsh (1977-81). UW's all-time leading scorer on the blue line (228 points).

If today were May 25, 1994, today's "Photo of the Day" would feature Mike Richter, a very important person in the NHL that day. Why? Because the former Badger was the goalie for the New York Rangers, who trailed the New Jersey Devils three games to two in the NHL's Eastern Conference finals and had a game in New Jersey to try to tie the series.

Earlier this week, longtime, and I mean longtime NHL player Scott Mellanby (top 20 all-time) stepped down from his assistant coach job for the St. Louis Blues. He appears to want to become a front office man. Today's "Photo of the Day" is him celebrating a goal as a Badger in 1986.

It's a HUGE day at La Bahn Arena as the pouring of the arena floor is going on. Started at about 3 a.m. They had gotten pretty far by 7:30 a.m. It is one continuous pour, then they wait a month for it to cure.

Today's "Photo of the Day" has no story behind it. Shot by Greg Anderson of the team after winning the Badger Hockey Showdown during the 2008-09 season.
