Classic Interior Design; Spencer-Churchill This Victorian-style library is cozy and inviting, with rich wood bookcases and paneling, jewel-toned, comfortable furnishings and a fireplace to make a warm spot for curling up with a good book. This modern library has been decorated in an 18th-century style, with many nods to classicism. A very handsome room, filled with gilt and leather books and fine furnishings.

I think a library should be a dark, what some might describe as masculine space, with a fireplace and heavy drapes (or no windows). Most libraries I see in home decor magazines are either a) not libraries (studies, maybe) b) way too light or c) do not have enough book shelves. This one is far too... stodgy, but it is the closest I've seen.

Home Libraries 1061 Library Design (teNeues) A beautiful home library and office, probably in Germany. Bookcases constructed of light-colored wood and glass-fronted doors, a handsome desk and chair, a pair of reading lamps and ample natural light make this an ideal room for reading. ******************************************************************************* 1062 House Beautiful: Decorating with Books; Hueston The charming niches and central table in the entrance hall

Library... this reminds me of the library in Beauty and the Beast!

Home libraries usually either look way too stuffy or like the decorator was just trying too hard. This one just looks cozy. I love the shelf to the right of the couch because it just looks like a floor to ceiling stack of books. My library will totally have stacks of books no matter how hard I try to keep them all on the shelves.

(via: ELLE Decor) "A pair of Hans Wegner’s Papa Bear chairs flank a circa-1938 Mogens Koch desk in the library of a Manhattan townhouse decorated by Lee Mindel." (December 2006) Gorgeously ornamented bookcases with all the moldings and trimmings, plus those lovely herringbone floors. Very chic.

he library in the entryway of a Hollywood Hill house. The bookcases, running nearly to the high ceiling, are painted white with red-painted walls behind to add color to the space. A small pedestal table and pair of arm chairs provide a place for browsing and stacking new purchases. A well-designed space.

♥ This is an awesome room- color perfect and it looks positively livable

The Book Room at Wimpole. The plasterwork in the foreground dates from the James Gibbs phase of the room, while the elliptical arches were designed by John Soane.

Utter symmetry isn't obvious when there's this much pattern in place. It helps keep the room from descending into chaos.
