I feel very strongly that with Murakami, readers are bound to fall deepest in love with whichever they read first, and I think this should be the chosen one. Once the delight of it wears off, the clean tone (particularly crisp when describing clothing - his narration has the effect of a steam cleaner) can become predictable and lose its charm.
