The Original Penn Station Before It Was Demolished [18 Photos] - The Roosevelts
Pennsylvania Station was an historic railroad station. 1910-1963 It was considered a masterpiece of the Beaux-Arts style and an architectural jewel. The main waiting room, inspired by the Roman Baths of Caracalla, approximated the scale of St. Peter's nave in Rome, expressed here in a steel framework clad in plaster that imitated the lower wall portions of travertine. 150 feet high, it was the largest indoor space in New York City and one of the largest public spaces in the world.
New York City, Penn Station. The Corinthian columns of the Main Waiting Room.
Pennsylvania Station, New York 1910-1963 The demolition of the original structure …created international outrage. As dismantling of the grand old structure began, The New York Times editorially lamented: “Until the first blow fell, no one was convinced that Penn Station really would be demolished, or that New York would permit this monumental act of vandalism against one of the largest and finest landmarks of its age of Roman elegance.”
The busiest train station in North America, New York's Pennsylvania Station was completed in 1910. It was a sparkling architectural example of the Beaux-Arts style. Nick leaves a party with Mr. Mc Kee and has a homosexual experience with him, before ending up passed out on a bench in Penn Station. "I was lying half asleep in the cold lower level of the Pennsylvania Station, staring at the morning Tribune, and waiting for the four o'clock train."

Interior of the Woolworth Building (lobby), New York City
On a Manhattan tour it's not hard to see the Woolworth Building, as it dominates the skyline around City Hall. The great Cass Gilbert designed the structure, it was coined the Cathedral of Commerce, and at one point was the tallest building in the world. That doesn't mean that Cass didn't have a sense of humor. Here he is immortalized in terra-cotta inside the lobby.
In the lobby of the Woolworth Building in NYC, the architect, Cass Gilbert, portrayed himself holding a model of the building in a marble grotesque.

A Mansion on Turtle Creek - Dallas, TX

I would love to have a grand Christmas party at a place like this. One day
Blogger says...No, not the famous Mansion on Turtle Creek Hotel, this is a single family home on Turtle Creek in Dallas, TX. I took this shot around 11:00 at night after the record breaking snowfall in Dallas earlier this month. All of the other homes in the area were without power so I was surprised to come across this home all lit up.
