Pennsylvania Station (demolished), by McKim, Mead & White, NYC
Training Stations, Public Spaces, New York Cities, Pennsylvania Stations, White, New York City, Architecture, Penne Stations, The Originals
Pennsylvania Station was an historic railroad station. 1910-1963 It was considered a masterpiece of the Beaux-Arts style and an architectural jewel. The main waiting room, inspired by the Roman Baths of Caracalla, approximated the scale of St. Peter's nave in Rome, expressed here in a steel framework clad in plaster that imitated the lower wall portions of travertine. 150 feet high, it was the largest indoor space in New York City and one of the largest public spaces in the world.
The busiest train station in North America, New York's Pennsylvania Station was completed in 1910. It was a sparkling architectural example of the Beaux-Arts style. Nick leaves a party with Mr. Mc Kee and has a homosexual experience with him, before ending up passed out on a bench in Penn Station. "I was lying half asleep in the cold lower level of the Pennsylvania Station, staring at the morning Tribune, and waiting for the four o'clock train."
The original Penn Station in New York City, the most amazing Beaux-Arts building ever, designed by McKim, Mead and White and completed in 1910. Its demolition began in 1963. The Pennsylvania Plaza complex with the fourth Madison Square Garden was completed there in 1968.

Interior of the Woolworth Building (lobby), New York City
On a Manhattan tour it's not hard to see the Woolworth Building, as it dominates the skyline around City Hall. The great Cass Gilbert designed the structure, it was coined the Cathedral of Commerce, and at one point was the tallest building in the world. That doesn't mean that Cass didn't have a sense of humor. Here he is immortalized in terra-cotta inside the lobby.

"Crane Estate at Castle Hill Ipswich Ma-1634 The former summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard T. Crane, Jr., the estate includes a historic mansion, 21 outbuildings, and designed landscapes overlooking Ipswich Bay, on the seacoast off Route 1, north of Boston. Its name derives from a promontory in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, whence many early Massachusetts Bay Colony settlers immigrated, and predates the Crane mansion."
