According to the US Department of Veteran Affairs, more than 15% of homeless adults are veterans. A disturbing reality faced by the men and women who risked their lives to grant us with the freedoms we enjoy everyday.
One of the major challenges facing veterans is homelessness. Of the 636,017 homeless people in the United States, 67,495 are veterans. Veterans are twice as likely to become chronically homeless as other Americans. This is due, in part, to veterans’ heightened risk of unemployment, foreclosure and poverty.
It takes a person of noble character to join the military. A person willing to make many sacrifices, to give up a high paying career, time with family, a steady home, and potentially their life. I am thankful for your service not only today, but everyday. God bless you and your families.
