Hi! I am Amanda Hochfelder Santi. I am autistic. By being autistic, I perceive the world and communicate differently than most people. I am misunderstood often by those who do not know me. This is a book I wrote about myself, my world, my life, and my success after completing "Autistic Exercises" that I developed with the help of my mother, a Doctor of Psychology.
Written BY an autistic 14 year old - who better to tell us what is going on inside their minds -and how they'd like us to reach out to them... "How to Talk to an Autistic Kid" by Daniel Stefanski is a great book to add to your shelf!
The Reason I Jump: One Boy's Voice from the Silence of Autism by Naoki Higashida, Written when he was only 13, this book explains the often baffling behaviour of autistic children and shows the way they think and feel - such as about the people around them, time and beauty, noise, and themselves. Naoki abundantly proves that autistic people do possess imagination, humour and empathy, but also makes clear, with great poignancy, how badly they need our compassion, patience and understanding.
This is a book about a meerkat that has autism spectrum disorder. Although it appears to be a children's book w/ exceptional, colorful pictures & easy to read vocabulary, it doubles as a teaching tool for adults to help them not only understand the autism spectrum better, but give them strategies to help the autistic individual be more successful in his or her environment. This book will undoubtedly touch your heart & at the same time give you an understanding of autism.
