Dominating the skyline of Cologne, Germany is their world famous cathedral: Kölner Dom. By far their most famous landmark for hundreds of years, the Cologne cathedral is part of the Roman Catholic Church and hosts the Archbishop of Cologne. One of the most interesting things about cathedral Koln is just how long it took to complete it. The construction initially started in 1248, but due to multiple halts in building, it took more than 600 years before the cathedral was complete.

Koln, Germany. If you go, research the cathedral. You can see the pitting from the allied bombings and an interesting story on how the entire city was destroyed except the cathedral.

Cologne Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in Cologne. It is Germany's most visited landmark, attracting an average of 20,000 people a day. Construction of Cologne Cathedral commenced in 1248 but was halted in 1473. Work recommenced in the 19th century; completed, to the original plan, in 1880. The cathedral is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and has the second-tallest spires and largest façade of any church in the world. Survived WWII when the rest of Cologne was in ruins.

This magnificent Gothic Cathedral dominates the skyline of Cologne Germany.
