Men's Safety Razors

husband's razor blade, old school style.
Gillette - 1947 Source In my recent efforts to appear a little more “put together” and to actually embrace the era in which I love so much, I started reading on various websites etc. about wet shaving - it takes away the multi-blade razors whose blades cost $30-35 a pack and goes old school by using a cup, a shave soap, a brush and a safety razor. I read conflicting stories about the quality of the new safety razors, that use the disposable double sided blades, and decided to go with a 1952 Gillette Super Speed razor. I also purchased a shave mug, a brush and shave soap (bay rum scented of course) and yesterday I had all the components together to try my first wet shave but I was a little nervous… I guess I had read too much about this process and had begun to over-think the advice given online and had expected my first experience with this old style of shaving would result in a face covered in nicks, a sink bowl full of blood and a potentially fatal slice of my jugular vein where I’d take the crimson life force flowing freely from my neck and in my final dying moments have just enough time to write “Damn you Gillette” in my blood on the bathroom mirror before collapsing… but I didn’t. I’m happy to report that my first wet shave has resulted in a great shave with not a single drop of blood spilled.
Just like my Dad's safety razor
