One, U2, 1992. This song is already featured in polls as one of the greatest songs of all time. The Edge described it as a “bitter, twisted, vitriolic conversation between two people who’ve been through some nasty, heavy stuff.” The “one/oneness” theme has led some people to use it as a song at weddings -- to which Bono’s response is “Are you mad? It’s about splitting up!” The dichotomy between one/oneness vs. the breakup leitmotif makes the song that much more powerful; my favorite U2 song.
